Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) can be grown in a laboratory, or “culture-expanded,” to far greater numbers than a same-day preparation from your own body can yield.

In the United States, culture-expanded cells are regulated as a drug. They are not offered as routine care, and are appropriately available only within an approved clinical trial. What are culture-expanded MSCs?

Do stem cell injections work?

It depends entirely on which cells, for which problem. Same-day preparations from your own body — bone marrow concentrate and PRP — are what Dr. Paul actually offers, and they have real evidence for specific diagnoses and none for others. Culture-expanded cells are a separate question and remain in research. Any answer that does not name the cells and the diagnosis is not a real answer.

What does culture-expanded stem cell therapy cost?

Nothing here, because it is not sold here. Culture-expanded cells are available only inside an approved clinical trial, and a trial is not a purchase. If a clinic quotes you a price for culture-expanded stem cells in the United States, that is worth asking hard questions about.

Can I get culture-expanded stem cells abroad?

Clinics in other countries do offer them, under different rules. Before going, ask what is being administered, how it was grown and characterized, what is published on that specific preparation, and who handles complications and follow-up after you return. Dr. Paul will talk it through honestly, and he does not refer patients abroad for it.
